Porto do Poio to Sarria

Day 14 ~ Day 16

Although Carol's leg was still sore we decided to press on and give it a go.

We set off with heavy overcast skies, and a strong wind blowing, for the first time we felt the cold biting as we set off down a long, fast downhill. The rain started as we neared Samos, but we felt good as there was virtually no traffic on this Sunday morning.

By the time we reached the quiet town of Sarria the rain had stopped, but we decided not to push it too hard, Portomarin was still 24 kms away. We found a room at the Hotel Roma, which was very pleasant.

Lunch, was another memorable occasion. We ate at an "hospedaje" which cost 1.200 pts for a large bowl of broth with chick peas, a large portion of grilled hake, and homemade "flan" for dessert. Included in the price was a jug of "strange" but not unpleasant tasting local wine.

In the evening we ventured to the bar in the tiny railway station, only to find it quite busy. We sampled the excellent local cider and enjoyed a tasty tapa of "empanada de sardinas".

The countryside had now changed completely, we felt it was reminiscent of Wales.

According to the guide books we have a hard day ahead of us tomorrow.
