Day 4 ~ 9th August 2000

Vitoria to Ameyugo

Day 3 ~ Day 5
Our snug two man tent

We set out early from Vitoria, along the N1V, which very busy with lots of heavy traffic. The scenery was dull compared to the mountains we had just left, but we made good progress as the temperature gradually increased. By lunch time we arrived in Mirando del Ebro, it was approaching 35 C, so we stopped for a welcome beer at the petrol station at the entrance to the town.
We had lunch in the excellent "Duques de Fria" restaurant, menu de dia cost 1300 pts. This is located some 50m across the level crossings that are opposite to the petrol station.

Feeling that we were still behind schedule we decided to press on after lunch, only to be quickly drained by the heat, and now in the middle of nowhere we needed to find somewhere soon. Fortunately, we came across a camp site at the "Monumento Pastor" near to Ameyugo, by this stage we both felt quiet ill.

After pitching our tiny tent we could relax at last, although we slept badly on the sun baked ground with all our "valuables" inside with us.

Our evening meal was a welcome treat, 4 courses, an excellent bottle of wine & the customary "chupitos". We were feeling a little better as we wondered back to our tent.
